Description
10 Hill Street in Edinburgh is a former house built between 1788 and 1794 by James Hill. This three-storey building features a mansard attic and has a classical design with three bays. The exterior is made of droved cream ashlar sandstone, which has been stone cleaned, and includes polished dressings. There is a cill course at the ground level and an eaves course. The right bay has an architraved doorpiece with a fluted frieze and cornice, leading to a modern panelled door with a three-pane fanlight above. The modern mansard roof includes three dormers.
At the rear, the building has a two-storey and attic elevation made of rubble, with two bays and a stair window on the left side. The windows are timber sash and case with 12 panes. The building features ashlar coped skews and is topped with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1995.
