Description
15 Hill Street in Edinburgh is a former house built between 1788 and 1794 by James Hill, with some later alterations. The building is three stories high with an attic and features a classical design with three bays. It is constructed from droved cream ashlar sandstone, which has been cleaned, and includes polished stone dressings. The ground floor has smaller windows with a cill course, and there is an eaves course above. To the left bay, there is a broad tripartite architraved doorpiece that has a fluted frieze and a mutule cornice, with a modern panelled door. The building also has a full-width timber box dormer.
The rear elevation is made of irregular rubble and includes a projecting closet and stair bay on the right side, along with a tripartite window on the first floor to the left. There is a slate-hung box dormer as well. The windows are timber sash and case with 12 panes, while the rear features plate glass. The building has ashlar coped skews and stone stacks, which are rendered on the east side, topped with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1995.
