Description
1 Mayfield Terrace is a villa built around 1860, designed in the style of David Bryce. This two-storey, two-bay building is situated on a corner site and constructed from coursed, stugged sandstone ashlar with polished dressings. It features overhanging bracketed timber eaves, bargeboards, and chamfered reveals.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has an advanced section to the right that is rounded at the ground level and corbelled to a square shape at the first floor. It includes an architraved and hoodmoulded doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. To the left of the entrance, there is a single window, and another window is located on the first floor. A blank square tablet is set in the gablehead. The left bay has a full-height canted window that sweeps to a square shape at the eaves, with a blank square tablet also set in the gablehead. A former coach-house and service wing is recessed to the outer right, and there is a modern detached double garage to the east.
The west elevation, facing Blacket Place, has two bays with a single-storey wing adjoining to the outer left. It features a gabled bay to the left and a gablet to the right bay, with single windows on both floors of each bay.
The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, featuring a corniced gablehead stack to the west and a wallhead stack to the south.
The boundary walls consist of low coped rubble walls along Mayfield Terrace, which rise to high walls along Blacket Place.
