Description

5 Mayfield Terrace is a pair of classical houses built around 1860. They are two stories high with a basement and feature a symmetrical four-bay design. The houses are constructed from cream sandstone polished ashlar, which is channelled at the ground level and has been recently cleaned, while the sides and rear are made of rubble. Notable architectural features include a base course, a cill course, and moulded architraves around the first-floor windows, as well as a cornice and a blocking course.

On the south elevation, there are steps leading to doorways in the two outer bays. Each doorway has a two-leaf panelled door with plate glass fanlights above. The doorways are flanked by strip pilasters and supported by Doric columns that form corniced doorpieces. The first floor features bipartite windows above the doorways and tripartite windows in the central bays on both floors.

The windows are made of plate glass and timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with corniced wallhead and ridge stacks, as well as moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is also surrounded by low coped boundary walls along the street, with higher mutual walls to the east that include a plain gatepier. Corniced pedestrian gates are located to the east and west of the property.
