Description

W Hamilton Beattie, circa 1876. Pair of 4-storey with attic, 5-bay symmetrical Baronial style tenements, mirrored about centre. Squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Base course; dividing band course between ground and 1st floor; corbel table above 2nd floor )segmental-arched over windows); crowstepped gables; raised window surrounds.

N (entrance) elevation: each 5-bay block comprising: central doorway; panelled door; plate glass fanlight. Central gable with 2 round-arched gablehead windows. Single windows in bays flanking centre. 3-storey canted windows to outer bays, surmounted by cornices and cast-iron brattishing, forming mock balcony to 3rd floor bipartite windows; gabled timber dormers (finialled at No 5) with bracketted bargeboards and round-arched bipartite windows.

Predominantly 4-pane plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; corniced gablehead and mutual stacks; moulded cans; moulded eaves guttering; some original rainwater goods.

INTERIORS: not seen 1990.

Low saddleback wall to street.
