Lauriston Hall, 28-32 Lauriston Street, Edinburgh

Lauriston Hall, located at 28-32 Lauriston Street in Edinburgh, was designed by Archibald Macpherson and completed in 1909. This building is an asymmetrical, three-storey, six-bay Classical palazzo that serves as both a hall and a presbytery. It features pinkish sandstone ashlar, with a rock-faced finish below the cill level on the ground floor and a channelled appearance above. The first and second floors are polished, and there is a moulded band between the ground and first floors, along with a mutuled eaves cornice. The windows are set in moulded surrounds, with cornicing on the first floor.

On the northeast elevation facing Lauriston Street, there is a recessed bay to the left that includes a segmental-arched opening at ground level with glazed doors leading into the hall. Above this, there are single windows on the first and second floors. The entrance to the presbytery is located in the third bay from the left, featuring a recessed porch. The rock-faced base course continues to form a pedestal for a Doric column to the right of the entrance. To the left, there is a gated entrance leading to steps, and to the right, a two-leaf border-glazed timber door with a border-glazed fanlight is set in a shoulder-arched moulded opening. There is also a window in a shoulder-arched opening to the left. Above, an arched recess contains two small stained glass windows, which are shoulder-arched at the outer edges, and features a scrolled keystone. A scalloped window below a carved angel and corn-husk garland displays a gilded IHS roundel. Above this, there is a stone-mullioned bipartite window. The outer bays have single windows on the ground and first floors, with bipartite windows on the third floor.

The northwest elevation curves around to connect with the forecourt of the Sacred Heart Church. It features a single window to the right at ground level and two windows on the third floor. There is a door in a recessed link to the church, with a small window above and to the side. The first floor has four small windows, while the second floor has two small scalloped windows and the third floor has three windows.

All windows are adorned with border-glazing, and the building has corniced stacks with circular cans.
