Description

The sundial located in Saughton Hall Gardens, Saughton Park, Edinburgh, dates from the mid 19th century but incorporates elements from the 17th century. It features a tall, ornately decorated baluster design raised on two octagonal steps. At the base, there are inscription panels enclosed by bracketed legs. Above this, the baluster shaft is adorned with foliate carving that supports a circular drum. This drum is decorated with neoclassical urns, putti, and swags in relief, and it has four dials positioned above. The structure is topped with a tapered finial that is ornamented with scrolled brackets.
