Description

Chadwick, Watson & Co, Leeds, 1937. Prominent Art Deco former cinema on road junction with bowed corner. Red brick with concrete band courses to base, lintel, sign board cills and double courses to wallhead below attic, concrete surrounds to sign boards and bowed centrepiece; render to rears.

BOWED CORNER: 5-bay full-height bow with 3 openings at ground under fanned canopy, regular fenestration to 1st and 2nd floor offices with dividing pilasters and fluted aprons and fluted lintels to 2nd floor; deep blank wallhead at attic level, stepped to centre. GORGIE ROAD ANDALEXANDER DRIVE: near identical with deeply recessed doors in outer bays (further door to inner bay to Gorgie Road), broad, recessed sign board panels spanning 1st and 2nd floors with cornice and deep banded blocking course, attic floor each with tripartite window to centre.

REAR ELEVATIONS: quasi-pilaster strips delineating wallplane with irregular windows near to street (some blocked) in taller section, lower section extending back with pitched roof. Metal-framed windows with opening central panes surrounded by fixed borders; metal lying- pane glazing to attic windows. Grey slate roof.

INTERIOR: Original interior demolished and redeveloped for shop and flats, 1997.
