Description

Mcewan's Maltings is a simple brick-built industrial building dating from around 1900. It is designed in a Renaissance style and has six storeys, with the upper four floors featuring giant segmentally arched recesses. The building is U-shaped, with two northern fronts facing Slateford Road that each have six windows. There is a gateway formed by simple ashlar piers between the fronts, and the flanks have twelve windows in total. The structure is topped with a timber modillioned cornice and piended slated roofs. At the back, or south frontage, there are two pairs of kilns, each featuring three giant arches at the second and third floor levels. There have been modern alterations within the courtyard and on the west flank.
