Description
The Two Bridges Hotel, located at 2-3 Newhalls Road (Edinburgh Road) in South Queensferry, is an earlier 19th-century building that has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features droved ashlar stonework with smooth ashlar dressings. The original structure is a 2-storey and attic, 3-bay villa, with 2-storey wings added to the east and west. It has a base course, a first-floor band course, a moulded eaves cornice, and raised cills. A modern conservatory has been added to the west.
On the northern principal elevation, the central section has a symmetrical 3-bay facade, featuring a central arched doorpiece with pilasters and a delicate umbrella fanlight, along with regular window arrangements. The west wing includes a 2-storey, 3-light canted bay topped with a pediment. The east wing has a 3-light canted bay at the ground floor and a single window with a dormer head above.
The east elevation has an M-shaped gable, with a single-storey extension on the left and a single window in the right bay at the first floor. The south elevation displays irregular window arrangements. The west elevation features a 2-storey advanced bay and a single-storey conservatory added to the lower bay.
The hotel has a variety of glazing patterns in its timber sash and case windows, a slate roof with straight skews, and low ashlar stacks at the gable heads.
