Description

Waverley West Signal Box, built in 1936 by the London and North Eastern Railway Company, is a long, symmetrical, two-storey structure with eight bays, featuring a glazed projection for the operation room. It is constructed from reconstituted stone and concrete and is set into the siding wall to the west of Waverley Station.

On the ground level, there are a pair of timber doors in the outer bays, which have roll-moulded surrounds and small window lights on either side, linked by a continuous cill course. The upper level features tripartite windows above the doors, each with an offset recessed detail and a pilastered effect. The central section has a six-bay glazed projection with canted corners, and each bay has a tripartite glazing pattern separated by reconstituted stone mullions. The building has a flat roof covered with felt.

The interior was not seen in 2012, but it originally housed a power frame signalling installation from 1936.
