Description
Hoylake Railway Station, built in 1938, is a railway station designed by the Architects' Section of the office of W.K. Wallace, Chief Civil Engineer to the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. The station features a concrete frame with brick cladding and a flat roof. It is a long, one-storey building with ten bays, where the third to fifth bays are recessed, and the end bay has a round-ended projection. The overhanging roof transitions into a cantilevered canopy at the front, with the last four bays sweeping out and supported by a column with a simplified capital featuring horizontal grooves. The windows are fitted with iron frames and horizontal glazing bars, with the end bay window having a rounded end and top horizontal glazing bars, and a serving hatch on the left side. The main entrance, located in the seventh bay, is flanked by half-columns and features a fluted cornice, glazed doors, and a low drum above with eight long windows. The south facade facing the platform has a deep cantilevered canopy and similar architectural details, with the concrete structure visible. The entrance includes doors flanking a bowed kiosk. Inside, there is a tiled hall with a round light fixture in the drum and a bowed projection forming the rear of the kiosk. The design of the station is influenced by Charles Holden's designs for London Transport Stations.
