Description

Soroba House Hotel, located on Soroba Road in Oban, is a late 18th century, three-bay, two-storey house with a rectangular plan and projecting wings to the north, south, and east. The exterior is cement rendered and lined.

On the west elevation, there are shallow bows flanking the central bay. The eaves feature a cornice, and the windows on both the ground and first floors are Wyatt windows, with raised margins and projecting cills. The central bay contains a door with a window above it.

The south elevation has a gabled appearance, with a single window at landing level in the center. To the right, there is a two-storey wing that includes a flat-roofed porch, adding an extra bay to the south elevation at ground level, which is fronted by a loggia. The loggia features a rustic rubble wall on the west elevation and a pointed-arch Gothic-glazed fixed light window.

The north elevation also has a gabled design, with a single bipartite window to the left at landing level. There is a single-storey wing projecting to the north at ground level, which includes a bipartite window on the west elevation.

The main openings of the principal elevation feature six-pane timber sash and case windows with four-pane sidelights. The north and south wings, as well as the west elevation of the loggia, have four-pane and eight-pane timber sash and case windows. The rear wings have modern glazing. The roofs are covered with grey slate, pitched over the loggia and wings, except for the gabled center rear wing. The bows have lead flat roofs. There are cast-iron downpipes and gutters, with skews to the gables and coped four-flue stacks topped with circular black cans.
