Description
Lochnell House Steading, located at Ardmucknish Bay, dates from the late 18th century to the mid 19th century. This mid 19th century structure is a two-storey building, with part of it being three-storey, and features a classical L-plan that connects to earlier farm buildings, creating a U-plan layout. The building is constructed of random rubble with granite dressings, and some of the earlier buildings have been painted. It has overhanging eaves and a plain bargeboard.
The principal entrance elevation on the northeast side has seven bays, with a full-height arched entrance located in a slightly advanced bay at the center. This entrance is flanked by two round-arched blind windows, with the right window having a door and window inserted. The outer bays are recessed, with windows on each floor in the right bay and blind windows in the left. There is a double door on the left return.
On the northwest side elevation, there are eight bays, with the central six bays featuring a mix of blind windows and regular windows at both ground and first floors. The end bays are gabled and similarly detailed.
The courtyard elevation displays a mixture of symmetrically arranged openings, some of which have been updated with new slappings. The cart-arches have been filled in, and modern windows have been installed. The earlier buildings include a single-storey, long range of cart-arches, some of which are blocked.
