Description
Balnagown Mill, located in Lismore, is a 19th-century corn mill that is no longer in use, having been disused since 1921. The mill retains most of its original machinery. It features two gabled ranges arranged in an L-plan, with a single storey and lofts, all constructed from rubble.
The south range has a cast-iron breast-shot wheel on the east gable and a depressed-arched cartway facing north, along with a single opening on the south side near the eaves. The northern range has an asymmetrical gable built into the bank, with a loft door located in the gable-head. A lade runs along the east side, carried through a fireclay pipe above a stone embankment. The roofs are slated, and there is a ventilator on the northern range. The interior of the mill is remarkably complete.
