Description
The Coalery on Easdale Island is a former engine shed built in the later 19th century. It is a single-storey structure with a rectangular plan and M-gabled roof, constructed from whinstone and slate rubble coursers. A bell tower is located at the eastern gable.
The eastern elevation features two large gabled bays. The left bay has a square-headed machinery door and a smaller pedestrian door, while a small bell tower is slightly recessed from the apex, with the bell suspended between two slate piers capped by a large slate slab. The right bay contains large square-headed double machinery doors, with timber boarding extending from the eaves to the apex of the gable.
On the western elevation, there is a window on the ground left side. The northern elevation has a gabled roof that terminates at the centre right, with a lean-to roof extending from the centre right to the outer right. The southern elevation features a window on the outer left and a modern dormer window also on the outer left.
The roof is covered with grey slates and lead flashing, and the windows are 4-pane timber sash and case. Inside, the building is an open-plan workshop with small offices partitioned off at the rear.
