Description
Earlier to mid 19th century with later 19th century additions. 2-storey, asymmetrical, gabled, rambling-plan house. Rendered with chamfered, golden sandstone margins; chamfered arrises and quoin strips. Projecting bracketted eaves.
S ELEVATION: 3-bay gabled block of main house with single storey advanced block to outer right. Broad advanced gable to outer left, window to right at 1st floor. M-gabled block to right, door at ground right, glazed with sandstone surround, window at 1st floor in gablehead. Windows symmetrically disposed in bay to left. Single storey advanced bay to outer right. Window at ground left, small round-headed window in gablehead.
W ELEVATION: 4 gabled bays. Broad bay to outer left, window at ground and 1st floor, quoin strips separate from 3 symmetrical bays to right. Centre gabled bay has shield at gablehead, windows symmetrically disposed. Blank bay to outer right.
N ELEVATION: advanced gable to outer right, large windows at ground, small windows at 1st floor. Kitchen court to left and asymmetrical rear of main house with square dormers.
E ELEVATION: 3 bays. Door and window to outer left, gently-bowed window at centre, 2 windows to outer right. Bays united by symmetrically placed square-headed dormers.
12-pane sash and case windows, 6-pane over 9-pane for lower block on S elevation, 8-pane over 12-pane for W elevation. Leaded casement windows for dormers. Grey slate roof. Coped and rendered ridge stacks with circular cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1993.
OUTBUILDINGS: single storey block to W adjacent to garden. Rubble with harl pointing, stugged red sandstone margins. Boarded door at ground with window to left on S elevation, hoist door at centre, eaves project under gambrel roof, supported on sandstone corbels. Square dormerheads at side elevations.
Casement, leaded windows. Grey slate roof.
WALLED GARDEN: high rubble wall with slab coping.
