Description
1 High Street and Standard Lamp in Oban is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic traditional tenement featuring three bays with a canted northwest end. The building has cement rendered walls, with chamfered sandstone ashlar dressings around the doors and windows, and a droved finish at the ground floor. It also has a base course.
On the north elevation facing High Street, the building has three bays, with an additional bay in the canted section to the left. The ground floor includes a shop window in the center bay and an entrance door to the right, with regular fenestration on the first and second floors.
The west elevation facing Argyll Square features a single bay at the center, with a door at the ground floor and blind windows above.
The south elevation facing Gibraltar Street has three bays, with an additional bay in the canted section to the right, and a shop at the ground floor. A stair tower is located at the third bay, featuring a round turnpike stair capped by a conical slate roof, with a door at ground level on Gibraltar Street.
The upper floors and stair tower have 12-pane sash and case windows, with the second-floor sashes being original. There is a 4-pane fixed-light window on the north elevation at the ground floor. The roof is grey slated, piended over the canted end, with modern slate-hung box dormers on both pitches. The building also features a weathervane finial on the tower roof, cast-iron downpipes and gutters, and a 4-flue wallhead stack at the center of the northwest wall. Additionally, there is a cast-iron lamp standard adjacent to the south elevation.
