Piermaster's Offices And Lamp Standards, North Pier, Oban

The Piermaster's Offices and lamp standards at North Pier in Oban were built in 1927. This near-symmetrical, single-storey U-plan harbour office building is notable for its central two-storey square tower.

The tower is constructed of red brick with infill panels, featuring a string course and decorative elements made of Winget blocks, along with a terracotta datestone. It has an arched pend and a metal dome set in a shallow pyramid, topped with a contemporary cubic clock as a finial. Large tripartite glazed round-headed windows are located beneath the pend lighting, adjacent to the offices.

The offices are made of rendered and painted brick, with timber doors that have glazed upper panels splayed to either side of the pend. The windows are timber sash and case style, with six-pane upper sashes and plate glass below. The building has a metal piended roof, with single-flue stacks and canted bays symmetrically arranged around the tower.

Additionally, there are three cast-iron lamp standards located adjacent to the west front of the building.
