Description
The pier at Rosneath Road, Kilcreggan, was originally built in 1850 and rebuilt in 1897. It features a 14-span, wood-piled structure with a pierhead. The pier piles are arranged in pairs with diagonal bracing and a top cross-bearer. The piles at the pier head are spaced more closely together, and the outer face includes rubbing stakes and cast iron. There is a modern cast-iron railing along the pier. A shelter was added to the pierhead in 1964.
At the northeast end of the pier is the former pier office, dating from around 1850. This single-storey, four-bay building has a rectangular plan with gables that are slightly advanced on the south and north elevations. It is finished with painted harl and features ashlar margins and dressings. The eaves are slightly advanced, supported by wooden rafters.
The west gable has a tripartite doorpiece at the center, which is now blocked, with margins of flanking narrow windows that are positioned below the cill level. The northeast elevation consists of a four-bay main block, with a lower bay on the outer left. There is an advanced gabled bay at the penultimate bay to the left, featuring a tripartite doorpiece, two symmetrically placed windows to the right, and a single window to the left, along with the lower bay on the outer left.
The south elevation also has four bays, with a gabled bay at the penultimate right, a window at the center, and a modern door (which was formerly a window) to the right, along with a lower block on the outer right and two windows to the outer left. The building has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with lead flashings, and sandstone coped ridge stacks.
