The Oban Times Offices, Corran Esplanade, Oban

The Oban Times Offices, located on Corran Esplanade in Oban, were designed by J Fraser Sim and completed in 1883. This four-storey building features a near-symmetrical three-bay layout with classical detailing. It is constructed from cream sandstone ashlar, with polished granite colonnettes at the ground floor. The building has a decorative eaves frieze, a consoled cornice, and a balustrade parapet topped with a central pedimented panel inscribed with "Oban Times" on the west elevation facing the esplanade.

On the west elevation, there are two large window bays in the center, separated by colonnettes at the dividing mullion and reveals. Flanking the center are round-arcaded doorways, each with colonnettes and a keystone; note that the doorway on the right has been altered to a window. The center bay features architraved windows on the first, second, and third floors, with the second-floor window having a balustrade balcony and a consoled cornice. The outer bays have full-height canted oriels supported by large consoles at the ground floor.

The south elevation, facing John Street, has five bays with irregular ground-level openings and five symmetrical window bays on the upper storeys. All windows are architraved, with those on the first and second floors featuring consoled cornices. A wallhead stack is located on the left, which includes a datestone. The building primarily has plate glass, timber sash and case windows, a concealed roof, and corniced stacks with moulded cans.
