Description
Rock Villa is a later 19th century, symmetrical single-storey house with a basement and attic, designed in a plain classical style and situated on a sloping site. The exterior features whitewashed stugged sandstone with painted margins, a raised cill course, overhanging timber eaves, and decorative cast-iron finials on the dormers. The sides and rear are constructed from tooled squared and snecked sandstone rubble, with stugged quoins.
On the southwest (entrance) elevation, there is a centrally located two-leaf timber panelled door at ground level, accompanied by a bipartite fanlight set within an architraved surround. Above, there is a boarded timber gabled dormer. Flanking the entrance are bipartite windows with stone mullions, and above these are three-light canted dormers.
The northwest (side) elevation features a single round-arched window at ground level, which has a raised keystone above its surround, and a single window in the outer right bay. The house has 2-pane timber sash and case windows at the ground level, while the dormers have 4-pane timber sash and case windows, with a 4-pane casement window at the centre.
The roof is covered with graded grey slate, and the dormers are slate-hung. There are corniced sandstone apex stacks on the southeast and northwest sides, each topped with octagonal cans.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by a low coped whitewashed rubble boundary wall at the front, with whitewashed obelisk-style panelled gatepiers flanking the pedestrian entrance, each topped with pyramidal caps.
