Description
This is a circa 1790 road bridge spanning the Dichty Water. It consists of two arches and was originally constructed as part of the Dundee to Meigle and Coupar Angus Turnpike following the 1789 Turnpike Act. The bridge is built of rubble, with irregular voussoirs forming the arches, and has flat-coped parapets. The arches are segmental in shape, and there is a cutwater at the western end, although the approaches to the bridge have been damaged. The road it served, now the B954, has been re-aligned, and the bridge is now disused. It is comparable to the bridge at Denhead. References can be found in David G Adams's Tollhouses of Angus District (1985, p14) and on an Ordnance Survey map dated 1865.
