Description

The bridge at Denhead dates to circa 1790 and is a single-span, round-headed arch road bridge. It is constructed of rubble with dressed voussoirs, featuring raised keystones and flat coping. The approaches are splayed. The bridge originally carried the Dundee to Meigle and Coupar Angus Turnpike, built following the 1789 Turnpike Act. The road, now the B954, has been re-aligned. The bridge spans the Dronley Burn. Historic maps from 1865 and research by David G Adams in "Tollhouses of Angus District" (1985) provide further details. A similar bridge is located at East Adamston.
