17-19 George Street, Montrose

17-19 George Street in Montrose is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic tenement building with three bays, featuring shops on the ground floor. The structure is made of squared and snecked sandstone, with a band course above the first floor, an eaves cornice, and plain margins.

On the southwest elevation, the ground floor has shops, with a modern shop to the left and a 19th-century shop to the right, which includes a central door flanked by plate glass windows. The first and second floors have symmetrical bays, with canted dormers above the outer bays.

The northeast elevation features a projecting bowed stair tower offset to the left, with windows at three levels. The northwest elevation shows the gable end adjoining No 15, while the southeast elevation has an irregular arrangement of windows, with two openings in the center on the ground floor, a window in the center and to the left on the first floor, and a small window in the gable head.

The building has timber sash and case windows, although there are modern replacements on the first floor of the southwest elevation. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are stone skews along with tall and broad rendered gable head stacks, and a brick stack at the wallhead to the right on the northeast elevation.
