Barrie Pavilion, Kirriemuir

The Barrie Pavilion in Kirriemuir, designed by Frank Thomson and dated 1929, is a single-storey, five-bay cricket pavilion with a rectangular plan, located at the top of a hill overlooking the village. It features a canted, breaking eaves and a polygonal-roofed entrance tower at the center of the northeast elevation. The building is harled with local grey stone dressings, including long and short quoins and an eaves course. The entrance has a roll-moulded surround with a date stone above it, and the broad overhanging eaves add to its character. Surrounding the pavilion is a low boundary wall that forms a terrace, which is canted and stepped to the southwest with a geographical indicator on a stone pedestal.

The southeast elevation has a pair of windows to the left, while the northwest elevation mirrors this. The southwest elevation is symmetrically arranged with entrances, including a fanlight in the outer bays, a single window to the side, and an additional square window. The windows predominantly feature 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, with later removable reinforced plastic shuttering. The roof is piended and covered with slate, topped by a metal drum on the polygonal roof.

Inside, as observed in 2013, the pavilion remains largely unaltered and retains its original fixtures and fittings. The entrance porch has timber panelling that includes a dedication plaque. The principal room at the center is flanked by changing rooms, all featuring vertical boarding timber to the dado, timber doors, timber benches, and a stone floor. A dog-leg staircase at the rear has a decorative iron balustrade.
