Description
The Cricket Pavilion, built in 1897, is a timber-framed structure with rendered brick infill set on a brick plinth. It features hipped and half-hipped thatched roofs and has gault brick axial stacks. The pavilion has a square central range with a verandah at the front and short wings on either side.
The exterior includes a two-storey central section with a half-hipped gable front, which has a five-bay arcaded wooden verandah on the ground floor and a wooden railed balcony above. There are central doorways on both floors featuring half-glazed double doors flanked by casement windows, all adorned with three-centred arches and glazing bars. The single-storey wings are set back to the right and left, with a corner window featuring glazing bars and a half-glazed door on the left side. The sides and rear of the building have similar three-centred arch windows with two-light casements and glazing bars.
The interior has not been inspected. The pavilion was constructed for Country House Cricket played at Hemingford Park, where gentlemen players stayed as guests in the main house while professional players resided in the pavilion, which contains three bedrooms on the first floor. Notable cricketers who played at Hemingford Park include A.E Carr, C.B Fry, and W.G Grace.
