Description
Brechin Castle Lodge and Gates, built around 1852, is likely designed by Brown and Wardrop in the Scots Baronial style. The lodge is a two-storey structure with crow-stepped gables located on the west side, featuring a round tower topped with a conical roof covered in fish-scale slates and a finial.
At the rear, there is a single-storey porch that connects to a window set at a curved angle, which is supported by corbels and squared off. The entrance features a depressed archway with buttresses, a stepped parapet, and a central panel, along with a smaller tourelle on the east side that mirrors the rope hoodmould.
The flanking walls are made of curved snecked rubble with coping and ball caps at the ends. The original timber and wrought-iron gates remain in place, as do the original 12-pane sash windows.
