Description
The steading at Tarbrax dates from the earlier to mid 19th century and features a rectangular plan. It is constructed from squared rubble with dressed quoins and voussoirs.
The cartshed and granary have a corrugated-iron roof. On the southwest elevation, there are three segmental-headed cart arches in the center and to the right, with a timber door to the outer left and a former door now a window to the right. Above, there are five small square granary openings arranged regularly.
On the southeast elevation, there is a bay to the left of center with a stone forestair leading to a hayloft that has a boarded timber door, and a window to the right in the lower bay. The northeast elevation features an advanced gable to the left with windows at ground level and in the gablehead, along with a further range projecting to the right of center.
The northwest elevation has a small hayloft opening off-center to the left and a timber lean-to at ground level. The cattle courts are loosely square in plan and have grey slate roofs. The southeast elevation of the cattle courts includes a long range with timber doors to the left and right of center, and a broad entrance off-center to the right. There is also an isolated gabled range with a window below a small timber-shuttered opening and a modern corrugated roof to the outer right.
On the northwest elevation, there are two blank piended bays to the right of center, with a further blank piended bay projecting to the outer right. There is a slightly lower bay to the left of center with a door to the left, and another piended bay to the outer left with a full-height door and a modern corrugated roof. The southwest elevation features a long low range with sliding timber doors in the center and left bays, a window to the right of center, and a door beyond to the right, with the cartshed abutting to the outer right.
