Description
Craigview House is a substantial former manse built in 1843, featuring a two-storey, three-bay, roughly T-plan layout. The house is constructed from harled rubble with smooth and painted margins around the windows. It has a piended roof covered with slate and two ridge chimneystacks. A uPVC conservatory has been added to the southeast side of the house.
The symmetrical front elevation faces southwest and includes a central shallow bow front. The ground floor openings are adorned with Tudor hoodmoulds, and the windows are mostly replacements.
Inside, as observed in 2019, the house boasts moulded cornicing, four-panel doors, and window shutters throughout. There are decorative arched doorways with intricate cornicing, a central stair featuring decorative cast iron balusters and a timber handrail, as well as some mid-20th century fireplaces in the ground floor rooms.
An arched entranceway is attached to the northwest corner of the house, leading into a small courtyard. On the north side of this courtyard is a 19th century rectangular-plan former dairy, which has been converted into a studio and features a single storey with an attic. There is also a late 20th century single storey addition to the northwest elevation of this ancillary building.
The property is set within a large garden that includes a covered well at the northwest corner. A high wall, which incorporates the northeast gables of both the house and the courtyard building, encloses the property along the roadside.
