Description
Links Lodge is an earlier 19th century, two-storey house with a basement and attic, featuring a classical design. It has a near square plan and includes a single-storey entrance wing to the north. The exterior is constructed from stugged sandstone ashlar and includes a band course above the basement, an eaves band course, and a cornice.
On the east elevation, there is a single-storey wing to the right and a large Ionic entrance porch with a five-step flight leading to the raised ground floor. The porch features fluted columns, a deep entablature, and a four-pane rectangular fanlight above the doorway. The main block to the left has a two-bay layout, with the central bay containing a window at the basement, ground, and first floors, the ground floor window having a plain hood. A canted dormer is set into the roof pitch. The left bay has a window at the basement and stone-mullioned tripartite windows at the ground and first floors.
The north elevation has three bays, with the single-storey wing advancing. It features slotted basement openings with key pattern timber panels, three windows at the raised ground floor with plain hoods, and three windows at the first floor that are set back.
On the west elevation, there are two windows and one entrance in the basement. A stone flight and platt lead to the entrance on the raised ground floor to the right, which has a large rectangular fanlight and a four-panel door, with a window centered above it at the first floor. To the left, there are two bays with windows at the ground and first floors, the central first-floor window being larger and offset. A canted dormer with a cill is set in the pitch.
The south elevation has two bays that are symmetrically arranged. The windows are timber sash and case, with 12 panes on the north and west elevations, while the others predominantly feature plate glass. The roof is pitched with grey slate, and there are two corniced ashlar stacks with polygonal cans at the apex. Decorative cast-iron rainwater goods are also present.
Inside, the principal room on the first floor features a decorative cornice and a marble fireplace. There is a dental surgery located in the basement and ground floors.
The boundary walls, gatepiers, and railings consist of a coped, stugged ashlar dwarf wall with decorative cast-iron railings surrounding the basement to the west. There is a later steel balustrade to the steps on the west side. The ashlar dwarf wall extends to the north and east, forming boundaries with John Street and Provost Scott's Road. Coped rubble boundary walls enclose the garden to the rear and form a boundary with John Street, including a brick section with a gate on Mill Street.
