Description
Balkemback is an early 20th century farmhouse that stands two storeys tall with a three-bay rectangular plan and a single-storey service wing at the rear. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings, featuring a slate platform and a bell-cast roof. It has a base course, a moulded string course at the first floor, and prominent ashlar quoins. The windows, mostly single and paired four-pane sash and case, are treated similarly. The building has deep eaves, coped shaped gables, and coped ashlar stacks.
On the south elevation, there is a central door with a fanlight and a moulded doorcase, with splayed reveals and an ashlar lintel that rises to the cill of a first-floor window. To the left, a full-height projecting bipartite window terminates in a shaped gable, while a similar tripartite window on the right has a parapet over the ground floor and a bipartite window at the first floor with a harled trefoil-headed gable.
The east elevation features a window at the ground floor centre, a bipartite window on the right, and a similar window at the first floor, with a shaped wallhead gable at the centre that has a stack. The west elevation mirrors the east elevation.
The north elevation includes a single-storey, L-plan service wing at the centre, with various doors and windows, including a garage door and a piended roof. There is a bipartite stair window at the centre of the main building, with a wallhead gable and stack above.
Inside, the farmhouse features a tripartite inner door with etched glass, a scale and platt stair with turned balusters, and some original chimneypieces.
