Description

200 High Street in Montrose is an 18th-century building that was remodeled in the mid-19th century. It is a two-storey structure with an attic and basement, featuring four bays and a rectangular shape, with a mid-19th century addition that forms an L-plan and terminates in a close. The exterior is harled, with a band course above the ground floor and chamfered and droved ashlar margins.

On the south elevation, the right bay has a window for the raised principal floor and a small additional window beneath the cill. Above, there is a stone mullioned bipartite window with its head breaking the eaves. The left bay features a corniced doorpiece at the ground level with a panelled door and a three-pane rectangular fanlight, along with a window above on the first floor. The next bay has a basement window and a window for the principal floor above, with a stone mullioned bipartite window on the first floor, also with its head breaking the eaves. The extreme left bay includes a flat-roofed addition at the ground level, a window on the first floor, and two dormers above.

The east elevation has a brick-built flat-roofed addition at the basement and ground levels, with a concrete forestair and a blank wall of the west wing above.

The building features six, eight, and twelve-pane timber sash and case windows. The main block has a grey slate pitched roof, while the west wing has a flat roof. There is a brick stack to the south of the west wing.

The interior was not seen in 1997. The boundary walls to the west are made of rubblestone.
