Description
23-25 High Street in Elie is an 18th-century building that was remodeled in the mid and later 19th century. It has two storeys and a dormerless attic, with a rendered exterior that mimics ashlar stonework and features margins. The central entrance has a door with a window above it, and there is one window above and one window to the right. The door on the far right has been blocked and converted into a window, all featuring chamfered margins. A small window has been added to the left of the door, also with chamfered margins.
The building has an unusual mid-19th-century remodel at the corner, which includes a pilastered shop front that has since been altered for domestic use. The splayed corner features a three-light canted bay window treatment, with one window to the right. On the left side, there is one margined window on each floor, and an attic light to the right at the west gable. The windows are reglazed with four and two-pane sashes. The gabled roof is slated at the front with straight skews, and there are rubble end stacks capped in brick and rendered to the left. The rear has a bracketed ogee rhone that is pantiled, with crowsteps on the northeast and a moulded end on the northwest. There is a central wallhead stack that is heightened in brick.
