Description
Lowvalley House in Blackness is a mid to late 18th century building, which may include some earlier elements, and was significantly remodeled and raised in the early 19th century. The house has two storeys and features three bays on the south side and four windows on the north elevation. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar window and angle margins; the south side is harled while the north side has bullnosed render. The entrance is located on the east gable and features 19th century cavetto reveals with blocked side lights and a six-flush-panel door. The west gable has two blocked windows, indicating the presence of the original 18th century house.
The north side has 12-pane sash and case windows, while some glazing has been altered on the south side, with 12-pane windows on the first floor and one dormer added around 1950. The building has ashlar, corniced end stacks, an eaves cornice on the north side, and a slate roof. Inside, there is a 19th century marble chimneypiece in the first-floor drawing room, along with some plaster cornice details, raised and fielded window shutters, and a winding cantilever stair that leads from the ground to the attic.
