31, 33 Wharf Street, Montrose

28, 29, 30 Wharf Street is an earlier 19th-century tenement building that stands three stories tall with an attic and features eight bays in an irregular terrace. The front is finished in sandstone ashlar, while the sides are squared and snecked. The ground floor is pilastraded, with a cornice above it, and there are eaves cornices and a blocking course.

On the south elevation, the left section has a five-bay ground floor with a central entrance featuring a rectangular two-pane fanlight and two-leaf panelled doors, flanked by two windows. The first and second floors each have four windows arranged symmetrically, with two dormers centered above. The right section has a six-bay ground floor, with a blocked opening to the left, an entrance with a two-pane rectangular fanlight, pilastered jambs, and flanking windows to the right. There are two additional entrances to the right, both with rectangular fanlights, the one on the extreme right featuring fine umbrella glazing. The first and second floors again have four windows arranged symmetrically, although the inner bay to the left is blocked and blinded on both floors.

The west elevation adjoins 24-27 Wharf Street, while the east elevation features a blank gable end adjoining 35 Wharf Street. The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, although there are modern replacements at the second floor and attic on the west side. The roof is pitched with grey slate, and it has stone skews, with brick gablehead and ridge stacks that have ashlar dressings.
