Description
The Old Parish Church is a rectangular building dating back to around 1620, originally formed as a parish from Peterhead and Crimond. The church is constructed of rubble and has irregular window openings. The south wall features a double arched panel monument visible from the exterior. The west gable has a round arched doorway emphasized by red voussoirs. A fine birdcage bellcote with a cornice and gabled roof running east to west is a prominent feature. A skew on the southeast side and another on the southwest side are dated 1620. While the church is roofless, it retains a significant amount of original fabric. The church’s history is documented in the New History of Buchan, which suggests a date of 1637 for the bellcote.
