Description
The Parish Church in Longside dates to 1835-6 and was built by John Smith. It is a large, rectangular building constructed from pinned squared rubble stone, with four windows on each side. The west gable is slightly advanced and features three narrow lights topped with a stepped hood-mould. A shallow projection contains an arched doorway with a simple chamfer, and a clock is located above this with a stepped hood-mould. A plain bellcote sits atop the gable. The original windows retain their original glazing. A vestry was added to the east gable in 1889. A bell, originally cast by Baird & Ellis in 1817, was recast by Mears & Stainbank in 1914. The building is an ecclesiastical structure and remains in use as such. References relating to the church's construction are found in the Aberdeen Journal of April 8, 1835, and in Pratt’s Buchan and Hay’s Post References.
