Description

This is an early 19th century steading arranged around a courtyard, with a detached cross building within the court. The steading is single-storey and has a loft, constructed of pinned squared granite with grey dressings. It features semi-elliptically arched cart sheds, and a pedimented front on the north-west side. A waterwheel, originally 30 feet in diameter, was demolished around 1962. The associated house has been significantly altered. The steading was likely built around 1825, following James Bruce’s purchase of the estate from the Fergusons approximately five years prior.
