Description

The Stable Courtyard at Tertowie House in Kinellar likely dates from the early to mid-19th century and has been altered over time. It consists of a row of three small, single-storey ancillary buildings. The central stable range features crow-stepped gables, while the southern section has been converted into a garage. There is also a lean-to stable range adjoining a walled garden at the southeast and a single-storey, three-bay gardener's cottage at the northeast.

The courtyard elevations are all harled. The range on the left (south) includes a sliding timber garage door and a single window at the rear. The central range has alternating timber and louver openings, stable doors with projecting cills and lintels, and two small cast-iron rooflights. There is a hayloft door on the north gable and a small opening at the rear. The right side features the three-bay cottage with a central door and flanking windows.

The stable range is a five-bay rubble structure with a barred opening on the left and alternating stable doors with timber-shuttered openings on the right, topped with a corrugated-iron roof. To the right of this range is another corrugated and harled structure adjoining the garage.

The gardener's cottage is built from squared rubble and has a central door with flanking windows, along with a later extension at the rear. The windows throughout feature 12-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case frames, with top-opening windows in the gardener's cottage. The roofs are covered with grey slates, with the three ancillary buildings displaying a contrasting triangular pattern at the ridge. The structure includes ashlar-coped skews and coped squared rubble stacks with thackstanes and some cans.

A coped rubble boundary wall runs along the southern edge of the courtyard.
