Description
The Nuclear Bunker at Tertowie House in Kinellar was built in 1962 and is situated underground beneath the gymnasium. It is accessed through a steel blast door and a 40-foot concrete corridor that runs adjacent to the gymnasium. The structure features a low flat roof and is constructed from flat-coped pink and grey squared granite rubble, with a recessed blast door located to the south.
Inside, six steps at the end of the corridor lead down to a decontamination area. There are two additional blast doors that open into the main corridor and various rooms, which include two generator rooms (one equipped with a small Lister generator), a ventilation plant, a Scientific Adviser's Room, an Operations Room, and a dormitory that previously accommodated 18 triple bunks. The dormitory also has a small blast door that leads to an escape hatch, along with a communications system.
