Description
Kinellar House is a mid-18th century house, though there may be earlier fabric, with north-west and north-east wings likely of a similar date. Originally, the house was constructed in a U-plan, with the wings connected only at their angles. Later, the re-entrant south-west angle was filled in with a staircase wing, likely around 1780, followed by two rooms to fill the south-east angle, and finally, the courtyard itself was infilled with a single-storey entrance hall and other spaces. Significant internal alterations occurred in the mid-19th century, including the creation of a large drawing room in the first floor of the west wing and the addition of extensive offices to the east (although a laundry room is of earlier date).
The house is two stories high and harled, with margins around the windows. The central front has a four-window arrangement, with a slightly advanced central gable and mid-19th century alterations. Coped chimneys are present. Old garden walls stand to the east and west, the western wall featuring a mid-19th century circular gazebo.
