47 Allardice Street

This late 19th-century building at 45 Allardice Street is a three-storey, two-bay flatted dwelling that includes a shop on the ground floor. It is part of an irregular terrace and features sandstone ashlar with squared rubble. The building has moulded cill courses, an eaves course, and corniced dormerheads, along with stone mullions.

The principal elevation is symmetrical above ground. The ground floor has an encaustic tiled entrance leading to an in-canted shop door, which is flanked by fixed display windows beneath a bracketed frieze. To the outer left, there is a fine nine-panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight. Each floor above features four-light oriel windows, with those on the second floor breaking the eaves and rising into decoratively finialled polygonal roofs.

The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar gablehead stacks with cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews with flat skewputts. The building also has four square-section cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers and fixings.
