43 Barclay Street, Stonehaven

45 Barclay Street in Stonehaven is a late 18th to early 19th century building that has been altered at the rear. It is a two-storey and attic structure, forming a six-bay terraced pair of dwellings, with No 45 converted into a shop at ground level, completing an irregular terrace to the east. The building is constructed from large blocks of squared and coursed sandstone rubble, featuring a droved ashlar base course and stone cills at No 43.

The west elevation, which is the principal front, has three symmetrical bays on the right. The central bay contains a timber door with a letterbox fanlight above, flanked by windows in the adjacent bays. The first floor has regular fenestration close to the eaves. To the left, there is a central shop door at ground level with two windows above, also close to the eaves on the first floor. The attic features a polygonal-roofed canted dormer window in the center, flanked by later small piended dormers and additional canted dormers, all connected by a slate-hung mansard.

The north elevation, facing Mary Street, has a gabled design with a window on the left side at each floor and a broad gablehead stack. There is a door located in a later bay at the outer left.

The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in heavy, non-traditionally detailed replacement timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks, with the southern stack being truncated, and ashlar-coped skews.
