Description

16 UNION STREET: dated 1763 but possibly earlier. 2-storey,

square walled enclosure formed by rubble walls of roofless

mansion. 6 bays to Union Street, 4 bays to Bank Lane.

Near centre entrance in Union Street; various later enlarged

entrances. Re-used tooled granite pediment dated 1763

inserted in Union Street elevation.

INTERIOR: much overgrown with vegetation.

2 THE SQUARE: mid 19th century warehouse abutting The Jam,

later converted as net factory. Tall rectangular 3-storey,

4-bay building with later single storey wing fronting The

Square. Original windows enlarged in ground and 1st floor of

W elevation with brick jambs and metal horizontal glazing;

2nd floor windows in long elevations all blocked. Later brick

stack abuts SW angle; slate roof.
