Description

Harley House, located at 56 Ann Street in Stonehaven, is an early 19th-century, two-storey house with an attic and three bays. The exterior features stugged ashlar with droved margins and coursed rubble, along with a base course.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, with steps leading up to the central bay, which contains a deeply recessed panelled timber door and a fanlight that displays the name 'HARLEY HOUSE'. There are windows in the flanking bays and regular fenestration on the first floor, with canted dormer windows above the outer bays flanking a small rooflight.

The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar gablehead stacks that have a full complement of cans and thackstanes, along with ashlar-coped skews.

The property is also surrounded by boundary walls that are coped and whitewashed, featuring inset iron railings. The entrance includes pyramidally-capped square-section gatepiers and decorative iron gates that open in two leaves.
