Description

8 Carron Terrace in Stonehaven is a single storey and attic, five-bay terraced house built around 1850 to 1860, featuring bold late classical details. The property includes a late 19th to early 20th century single storey, single bay wing. Constructed from ashlar, it has base and eaves courses, with consoled cornices above the doors and three advanced tripartite windows. These windows have coupled outer consoles and block pediments that rise above the eaves.

The principal elevation has five symmetrical bays. To the right, there is a broad panelled timber door with a two-pane etched glass fanlight, flanked by tripartite windows in the adjacent bays (No 7). On the left, there is another door with a two-pane fanlight, with a tripartite window beyond it at the outer left (No 8). Above, there are three pedimented tripartite dormers, with those of No 7 flanking a small rooflight. Additionally, there is a later flat-roofed bay projecting at the outer left, which incorporates a panelled timber door to the left, a window to the right, and another window on the return to the right.

The windows feature a four-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with polygonal cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews with block skewputts.

The property is enclosed by low coped ashlar boundary walls with corniced, square-section gatepiers and terminal piers to the southeast, while higher rubble boundary walls are present elsewhere.
