Description
The North Bridge, built in 1826, is a single, segmental-arched bridge designed by John Smith. It is one of three small bridges he designed in the area; the South Bridge over the Learney Burn was also built in 1826, while the Bridge over Beltie Burn followed in 1833. The bridge features curved approaches and parapets swept down at the abutments. It has a flat, coped parapet above squared rubble. The bridge is no longer used as a road bridge. John Smith, an Aberdeen-based architect, undertook numerous commissions in northeast Scotland, including rebuilding part of Learney House after a fire in 1838.
