Description

The South Bridge, built in 1826 by John Smith, is a small, single segmental-arched bridge located near Craigour. It is one of three bridges designed by Smith, along with the North Bridge over the Learney Burn (also built in 1826) and a later bridge over Beltie Burn (constructed in 1833). The bridge features curved approaches and parapets that sweep down at the abutments. It is built with squared rubble and has a flat, coped parapet. John Smith, an Aberdeen-based architect, undertook numerous commissions in northeast Scotland, including rebuilding part of Learney House after a fire in 1838.
