Description
The Parish Church in Torphins was built in 1874-5 by J Russell Mackenzie. It is an ecclesiastical building, originally serving as an Established Church and still in use as such. The church is constructed with coursed granite harl, with an apse at the entrance end and an oblong tower featuring a tall, Germanic-style roof. Notable features include interesting joinery and a scissors roof truss displaying the influence of Alexander Ellis. Contracts for the building were reported in the Aberdeen Journal on April 8, 1874, and further details are found in FES v VI p 116.
